About the Policy Plaform

The Cambridge Central European Policy Platform is an initiative designed to strengthen policy and expert exchange between the United Kingdom and Central Europe. It brings together political representatives, policy experts, industry specialists, scholars, and practitioners to discuss the major challenges facing the region, from democratic governance and political polarisation to energy, climate, security, and long-term institutional resilience.

The Platform creates a space for focused, cross-partisan, and evidence-informed dialogue. Its aim is to connect Cambridge-based academic expertise with practical policy experience from Central Europe, supporting mutual understanding, strategic thinking, and sustained cooperation across the region.

Readiness to Govern (2026)

The first round of the policy dialogues will take place at the University of Cambridge in June 2026 under the theme “Responsibility and Readiness to Govern.” The meeting will explore democratic resilience, governing capacity, and post-election transitions in Central Europe, asking how political actors prepare for office and how policy ambitions are shaped by the realities of governing.

Held in a small, closed-door format, the dialogue will convene a number of senior policymakers, emerging political leaders, cross-partisan policy professionals, and Cambridge- and UK-based scholars and practitioners. The format is designed to encourage frank, substantive exchange and to support continued cooperation through future policy meetings, study visits, capacity-building activities, and policy briefs.

The inaugural dialogue will serve as a pilot for a broader programme of sustained engagement between Cambridge and Central Europe. Insights from the meeting will help shape future editions of the Platform and identify areas where continued exchange can support more practical, informed, and regionally grounded policy thinking.
