
Jana Howlett
Chair
Dr Howlett is an Emeritus Fellow of Jesus College, University of Cambridge, and an Emeritus Lecturer specialising in Slavonic Studies. Her research interests include medieval and modern Russian art and culture.
Jakub Csabay
Co-Founder and Convenor
Dr Csabay recently completed his PhD research at the Centre of Development Studies, University of Cambridge, where his work focused on the institutional dynamics of state-minority relations in the broader post-Soviet space. He currently teaches at the Institute of European Studies and International Relations, Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University. He also works as a consultant and has co-founded several NGOs in the region.


Barbara Bačová
Co-founder and Convener
Barbara is a PhD candidate in Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge and her research focuses on Slovak civil servants, state reform, and institutional cultures within public administration, particularly in relation to innovation policy. She previously served as a Junior Talent Policy Officer at the Research and Innovation Authority, contributed to projects within the European Expert Network on the Economics of Education and is an analyst at Institute for Global Analytics.
Barbora Horehájová
Co-Founder and Convener
Barbora recently completed her LL.M. in International Law at Cambridge, where she will continue with a PhD in International Legal History. Her research focuses on socialist influences on the international legal order, with particular attention to traditions from Central and Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. Alongside her academic work, she has worked with Slovak education-focused NGOs and in the Slovak Parliament, where she carried out legislative and public policy analysis.
